The #12 Millikin wrestling team finished in third place at the 35 team Pete Willson invite hosted by Wheaton College on January 28-29 in Wheaton, Illinois.
Millikin scored 92.5 points with Wisconsin-Eau Claire finishing in first place with 136 points followed by John Carroll with 100.
Millikin's Bradan Birt won at 165 pounds going 5-0 in the tournament to improve to 30-0 on the season, Birt, who began the tournament ranked second in the country in the latest NWCA rankings, pinned Brandon Peckham of Wisconsin-Stevens Point at the 5:00 mark in the Championship match. After posting three wins by fall on Friday, Birt opened Saturday with a 20-3 technical fall win over Casey Allen of Cornell.
Birt was named the tournament's George Olson Outstanding Wrestler and won the Jack Swartz Award for most falls in the least amount of time. His four falls took 8:01. Millikin Head Coach and Bradan's father, Ryan Birt was the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the 1999 Wheaton Invitational.
Jordan Carson finished 3-1 at 149 pounds and took fourth place. Carson was unable to finish the third place match due to injury.
Brayan Reyes went 4-2 at 285 pounds winning the fifth place match by fall at 6:52 over Rayshawn Dixon of Ferrum. Reyes posted three wins by fall at 285 pounds to advance to the semifinals. Reyes improved to 26-5 on the season.
Tommy Russell finished in seventh place at 125 pounds. Russell was 3-2 in the tournament winning the seventh place match 5-2 over Jake Hamulak of the University of Chicago. Russell is 21-3 on the season.
