Women's Volleyball Splits on Day One of Calvin Invitational

The Millikin women's volleyball team traveled to Grand Rapids, Mich. for the Calvin University Invitational on Friday, October 14. On day one of the tournament, the Big Blue swept Alma College before falling to the host Knights of Calvin University in four sets. 

In the matchup against Alma, the Big Blue won 25-15, 26-24, 25-19. Millikin was led by Kaitlyn Skowronski with 13 kills. Kailee Itzenhuiser added 10 kills and three service aces. Olivia Grbavac tallied 25 set assists, and Sophia Howell led the way in digs with 20. 

Alma was led by Callie Smith with seven kills. 

Against Calvin, the Knights took set one 12-25 and set two 16-25. The Big Blue rallied to take set three 25-17, but Calvin completed the four set victory with a 16-25 score in the fourth set. 

Itzenhuiser tallied 13 kills, and Jessi Kreder added 10. Olivia Grbavac notched 24 set assists, and Itzenhuiser was the digs leader with 16. 

Calvin's top kills-getter was Heidi Westra with 18 kills. 

The Big Blue will match up with Hope College on day two of the Calvin Invitational.
