Millikin Triathlon Wins Eastern NCAA Qualifier as Aly Barnes Places First

The Big Blue women's triathlon team traveled to Smith Mountain Lake in Huddleston, Va. for the 2022 Eastern NCAA Qualification race. Millikin was looking to repeat their finish as qualifier champions from last season. Aly Barnes crossed the finish line first in the Division III race, helping lead the Big Blue to a first place finish. 

Barnes exited the water first, completing the swim portion of the race in a time of 11:11. Kendall Rossignol was behind her in a swim time of 11:30, and the fourth swimmer to exit the water was Sarahi Villafana in a time of 11:46. 

Barnes finished the race in a time of 1:10:10. Villafana took eighth in a time of 1:19:27, and Amanda Fathman took ninth in 1:19:58. The final scoring athlete for the Big Blue was Julia Druml in 12th place in a time of 1:22:18, giving Millikin a team score of 70 for the win. Transylvania University placed second with 66 points, and Eastern Mennonite University took third with 62 points.

Kendall Rossignol placed 13th in a time of 1:23:30, and Shay Buchanan took 16th in a time of 1:27:58. 
 
Based on their performance at the qualifier, the Big Blue are eligible to compete in the Triathlon Nationals that will be held in Tempe, Ariz. on Saturday, November 12. In the Western Qualifier, North Central took first with a team score of 83 with sophomore Hailey Poe winning the race, and Trine placed second with a team score of 81 and athlete Amira Faulkner placing second in the race.
