Women's Volleyball Defeats UW-La Crosse, Falls to #5 WashU

The Big Blue women's volleyball team took the court for two matches on the second day of the WashU Invite on Saturday, October 8 in St. Louis, Mo. Millikin matched up against the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in their first matchup, winning 3-1, before falling in straight sets to the fifth-ranked host Bears of Washington University in St. Louis. 

Millikin outkilled La Crosse 48-42, with Tori Stuart leading the way with 19 kills. Kailee Itzenhuiser added 14 kills and 11 digs. Sandy Brindl tallied 16 set assists and two service aces, while Olivia Grbavac notched 17 assists. Sophia Howell led the way in digs with 14, and Jessi Kreder added eight total blocks. 

In the four set victory, Millikin topped the Eagles in set one 25-13 before falling in set two 18-25, then bounced back to take set three 25-21 and set four 25-18. 

The Eagles were led by Gabrialla Johnson with 18 kills. 

In their second matchup of the day, the Big Blue fell in three to WashU (20-25, 23-25, 24-26). 

Stuart was again the kills leader wiht 11. Itzenhuiser added eight and 12 digs, while Kreder also added eight kills. Kaitlyn Skowronski recorded three service aces. Grabavac topped the assists column with 22. 

The Bears were led by Michaela Bach and Zoe Foster with ten kills apiece. 

Millikin women's volleyball will jump back into College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin play on Wednesday, October 12 in a home matchup against the Firebirds of Carthage College.
