Millikin Women Win Home Opener

The Millikin women's basketball team won its 2022-23 home opener defeating Illinois College 69-50 on November 14 in the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois.
 
The Big Blue jumped out to a 23-9 advantage at the end of the first quarter and led 35-19 at the half. Millikin lead by as many as 22 in the second half and Illinois College could never close the gap to closer than 15 points.
 
Millikin shot 26-64 (40.6 percent) from the field including going 7-22 (31.8 percent) from three-point range. Illinois College was held to 30 percent (17-57) from the field and went 3-21 (14 percent) from three-point range. Millikin forced the Lady Blue into 30 turnovers. Illinois College won the rebounding battle 39-37.
 
Three players scored in double figures for Millikin lead by Chelsea McCullum with 14 points and five rebounds. Elyce Knudsen scored 13 points with four rebounds and three assists. Sophie Darden had 13 points and a team high eight rebounds.
 
Ashlyn Wightman led Illinois College with 18 points and seven rebounds. Gracie Kizer added 13 points.
 
Millikin evens its record to 2-2 while Illinois College falls to 0-2.
