Women’s Basketball Falls in Overtime

The Millikin women's basketball team lost at Washington University-St. Louis 72-66 in overtime at the McWilliams Classic on November 19.
 
Millikin got off to a strong start holding a 24-13 lead at the end of the first quarter. Each team scored 15 points in the second quarter making the Big Blue lead 39-28 at halftime. Millikin shot 51.5 percent (51.5) in the first half while the Bears hit on 12-21 (57 percent).
 
The Big Blue struggled in the second half. Millikin scored only seven points in the third quarter shooting 3-11 (27 percent) from the field and missing five three-point attempts. WashU only scored 12 in the quarter giving Millikin a 46-40 advantage at the end of three quarters. Millikin committed 18 turnovers in the game with 14 coming in the second half (seven in each of the third and fourth quarters). Millikin shot 4-11 in the fourth quarter going 0-4 from three-point range. Millikin shot 27-62 (43.5 percent) from the field for the game. The Bears out scored Millikin 19-13 in the fourth quarter sending the game to overtime tied at 59-59. WashU won the overtime period 13-7.
 
Elyce Knudsen led Millikin with 29 points. Chelsea McCullum, Sarah Ness and Abby Ratsch each added eight points.
 
Maya Arnott led WashU with 20 points followed by Jessica Brooks with 18.

Millikin falls to 3-3 while WashU improves to 3-0.

Knudsen was named the  McWilliams Tournament MVP averaging 22.5 points per game.
