Millikin Men’s Basketball Scores CCIW Win

The Millikin men's basketball team defeated Carroll University 74-73 on December 17 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois.
 
Millikin's JT Welch hit the game winning three-pointer with 21 seconds left in the game. The contest with tight throughout with 12 lead changes and eight ties. Millikin led 34-29 at halftime.
 
The game was tied at 71-71 with 1:24 left to play. Kobe Simpson then hit a jumper to put the Pioneers up 73-71 with 56 seconds left in the game setting the stage for Welch's last minute heroics.
 
Freshman Nate Straughter led Millikin with 16 points followed by three players each with 12 points. Drake Stevenson finished with 12 points and eight rebounds. Freshman Chase Travis had 12 points and six board. Cole Laurence also scored 12 points.
 
Simpson led Carroll with 21 points followed by Justin Steinike with 17.
 
Millikin shot 47.5 percent (29-61) from the field and made 50 percent of its three-pointers going 9-18. Carroll shot 52 percent (26-50) from the field and made 5-15 from three-point range. The Big Blue had a slight rebounding edge 29-27.
 
Millikin is now 7-4, 1-3 while Carroll goes to 3-8, 0-3. The Big Blue host Coe College on Tuesday, December 20 at 4 p.m.
