Men's Volleyball Winless in Wisconsin

The Big Blue men's volleyball team traveled to Fond du Lac, Wis. on Saturday, February 12 for matchups with two Wisconsin teams. Millikin was defeated by Marian University and St. Norbert College in straight sets. 

In the first match, Connor Fosselius led Millikin at the net with 11 kills. Jonathan Minnick added nine, and Cristobal Gonzalez tallied four. Michael Anderson and Chelan Beavers notched three blocks apiece, whilc Robbie Maida led the Big Blue in assists with 26 and Jensen Mast tallied 12 digs. 

Marian was led by Derek Wills and Cam Muller with 12 kills apiece. The Sabres outkilled Millikin 43-32. In the first set, it was all Sabres, with Marian taking the first set 17-25. Set two was tightly contested the whole way through, with a kill from Fosselius giving the Big Blue a 24-23 advantage. On game point, Marian evened the score on a kill by Wills. After trading kills, Marian pulled out the 26-28 victory on back-to-back kills by Aaron Velasco and a service ace off the hand of Muller. The Sabres completed the sweep with a 19-25 third set victory. 

In their second matchup of the day, the Big Blue faced the Green Knights of St. Norbert College out of De Pere, Wis. Fosselius once again led the offensive effort for the Big Blue, recording eight kills, while Gonzalez added six and Beavers was credited with five kills and five blocks. Anderson tallied three blocks. Maida chipped in 19 assists and 13 digs, while Mast led the Big Blue in digs with 15. 

St. Norbert was led by Jackson Corcoran with 14 kills. The Green Knights took set one by a 17-25 margin before taking down the Big Blue in set two by a score of 21-25. St. Norbert hung on for the sweep wiht a 25-27 win in the third set. After St. Norbert jumped out to a 3-11 lead, Millikin rallied back with short runs with Minnick and Beavers behind the service line to narrow the Green Knight lead to three at 17-20. A kill by Fosselius followed by a Green Knight error brought the deficit to one, and Millikin tied it up at 22 apiece after an SNC error. A block by Gonzalez and Beavers gave the Big Blue their first lead of the set at 24-23, but St. Norbert rallied back to hang on for the win.

The Big Blue will face their first College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin foe in Augustana on Tuesday, February 15 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Ill.
