Women's Tennis Cruises past Concordia Wisconsin in Hilton Head

The Big Blue women's tennis team matched up against Concordia University-Wisconsin in their second match at the Spring Tennis Fest in Hilton Head Island, SC on Thursday, March 17. Millikin took a 7-2 victory and cruised past the Falcons heading into their final day of competition.

The Falcons picked up the first win in doubles play with Mia Andrae and Cheyanne Phillips defeating Brianna Barconi and Destiny Galvan by a 3-8 margin at No. 2. The Big Blue tied things up with a win at No. 1 when Emily Markus and Paige Willer teamed up to defeat Ricki Budewitz and Ashley Samuta 8-6. Millikin headed into singles play with a 2-1 advantage after Nikol Obradovic and Taylor Milholland took down Elizabeth Johnson and Mallory Moen at No. 3 in an 8-7 (7-5) tiebreaker. 

On the singles side, Obradovic took the first win, defeating Budewitz in twin 6-0 sets at No. 1. Markus was the next victor in a tiebreak fashion at No. 2, beating Samuta. After falling in the first set by a score of 2-6, Markus rallied to take set two 6-3. In the tiebreaker, Markus came away with the victory in a 10-5 third set. Willer picked up a win at No. 4 in a similar fashion. Willer dropped the first set to Moen 1-6, then took a 6-4 set two victory before winning the third set tiebreaker 10-8. Taylor Milholland notched the final Millikin victory at No. 5 winning set one 7-5 before falling 4-6 in the second set. She capped off the tiebreaker set with a 10-8 victory. Concordia's final victory was recorded as a win by forfeit after an MU injury, crediting Johnson with a win at No. 6. 

Millikin women's tennis improved to 13-3 with the win. The Big Blue will begin their final day of competition in Hilton Head with a matchup against Washington College (MD) in the morning before meeting Stockton University for an afternoon matchup on Friday, March 18.
