Baseball Falls in CCIW Opener

The Millikin baseball team dropped a doubleheader against North Central College to open play in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) on April 2 at the Workman Family Baseball Field in Decatur. The Cardinals won game one 9-5 and took game two 7-3.
 
Game one was a scoreless game until the fifth inning when North Central scored three runs in the top of the inning with the Big Blue answering with two runs of its own. Up 4-2, North Central broke open the game with a five run seventh inning.
 
Frank Bryan had two doubles with two RBI for the Big Blue. Tommy Shaw also had two hits for Millikin.
 
North Central had five doubles and one home run in the game. Paul Beverly and Justin Rios each had two doubles for North Central with Beverly driving home three. Brad Novak was 2-5 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI.
 
Game two was again a tight game early with each team scoring a run in the third inning. Bryan stayed hot for Millikin with a run scoring double in the inning. Novak tripled and scored to account for the Cardinals tally.
 
North Central led 4-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh when Millikin scored twice. The Cardinals scored two in eighth and one in the ninth.
 
Shaw had two more hits in game two with a stolen base. Liam McGill had a triple for Millikin.
 
Beverly and Danny Nuccio each had two hits for North Central. Nuccio homered in ninth inning.
 
Millikin is now 13-8, 0-2 while North Central improves 15-5, 2-0. The two teams play again on Sunday in Naperville at 2 p.m.
