The #23 Big Blue softball team traveled to Rock Island, Ill. on Sunday, May 1 for a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin doubleheader against Augustana College. Millikin swept the Vikings, taking game one by a 10-3 margin before defeating Augie 6-0 in game two.

In game one, the Big Blue were on the board first in the top of the first inning when a sacrifice fly off the bat of Camryn Skundberg plated Lanie Chizmark. In the second, MU took a 2-0 lead when pinch runner Sarah Lahner scored on a wild pitch.

Augustana chipped away at the deficit in the bottom of the second when Ashley Dehmlow homered, then tied the contest in the third with an Erin Smith RBI double.

Millikin took the lead on a Skundberg solo homerun in the sixth, then continued the offensive production first with a Rylee Blake single through the left side to score Lex Tennison. Kendallyn Davison sent a single to right field to plate Gretchen Gould and Cassie Reed, then Chizmark laid down a bunt to score Blake and give the Big Blue a 7-2 advantage. Grace Biondo singled to right center to score two more, then Skundberg tallied her third RBI of the day on a single to right center to put MU up 10-2.

Augustana tallied one final run in the bottom of the sixth. Aly Armstrong picked up the game one victory to move to 13-4 overall this season. In 5.1 innings of work, Armstrong struck out three and allowed five hits. Charly Warlow provided 1.2 innings of relief, striking out one.

In game two, as the home team on the scoreboard, the Big Blue tallied their first run in the bottom of the third on a sacrifice bunt off the bat of Chizmark that scored Blake. In the fourth, the Big Blue tallied five runs, starting with an RBI single off the bat of Reed. A double steal on a first-and-third situation plated Katie Detamore, then Julia Lopanec and Gould crossed the plate on a Davison double to center field. The final run of the 6-0 victory was scored by Davison, advancing two bases on a wild pitch.

Addison Sargent moved to 13-1 on the season after notching the game two win. In six innings of work, Sargent struck out seven while allowing just one hit. Bailey Coffman provided an inning of relief in the circle.
