Match Recap: Women's Tennis | | Morgan Vogels

Women's Tennis Wins Dorothy McClure Tournament

The Big Blue women's tennis team went 2-0 on Saturday, September 3 to claim the title of Dorothy McClure Tournament champions for the second season in a row. Millikin defeated both Principia College and Greenville University 9-0.

In the first match of the day, D Galvan and Cristina Borunda took the No. 3 doubles match 8-2 over the team of Ruth Hummell and Philena Kuester of Principia. The team of Emily Markus and Paige Willer was victorious at No. 2 doubles by an 8-3 margin over Bisola Lassissi and Kimberly Peterson. Rounding out the doubles sweep was the team of Nikol Obradovic and Brianna Barconi at No. 2 with an 8-4 win over Kelsie Huss and Saray Cisneros of the Panthers. 

On the singles side, Obradovic picked up a win at No. 1 in 6-1, 6-3 sets. Willer was the victor at No. 2 with twin 6-2 set victories. Barconi recorded back-to-back 6-0 set wins at No. 3. Taylor Milholland defeated Peterson at No. 4 singles with 6-1, 6-4 set scores. Alexandria Ristfeldt picked up the win at No. 5 with 6-0, 6-0 set scores, and Katrarina Carlberg finished off the 9-0 sweep with 6-0, 6-1 wins at No. 6. 

Against Greenville in the championship match, Galvan and Ristfeldt started things off with an 8-2 win over Stephanie Kamp and Sarah Brannon at No. 3. Obradovic and Barconi took the next win for the Big Blue at No. 2 with an 8-1 win over Callie Adkins and Natalia Higashi. Finishing the doubles sweep was the team of Willer and Markus who defeated Mireia Birosta and Addison Brannon 8-2.

On the singles side, Barconi picked up a win at No. 3 with 6-0, 6-2 wins over Kamp, followed by a win by Willer at No. 2 over Addison Brannon by a 6-1, 6-2 margin. Obradovic tallied her second singles win of the day with 6-0, 6-0 victories over Birosta. Picking up her second win of the day at No. 5 was Milholland with 6-1, 6-0 set scores. Carlberg notched a win at No. 6 over Sarah Brannon, and Borunda completed the 9-0 sweep with a win over Adkins at No. 4 after falling in the first set in a 12-14 tiebreaker, coming back to win 6-2 in the second set and 10-3 in the final set of the afternoon. 

Millikin women's tennis will kick off CCIW play on Friday, September 16 against North Central College at the Fairview Park Tennis Complex.
