Millikin Men’s Basketball Falls at Elmhurst

The Millikin men's basketball team lost at Elmhurst University 75-73 on January 25 in Elmhurst, Illinois in a tight College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin battle.
 
The game was a tight contest throughout with six ties and five lead changes. The first half featured scoring runs by both teams with Millikin opening the game with an 11-2 to give the Big Blue its largest lead of the game at nine points. The Bluejays answered with its own nine point run to get themselves back in the game. Elmhurst largest lead of the game was four points. Millikin lead 36-32 at halftime. The game was tied five times in the second half.
 
With Elmhurst leading 71-68 with 3:28 left to play, JT Welch pulled Millikin to within one at 71-70. An Ocean Johnson free throw pushed Elmhurst's lead to 72-70 with 2:18 remaining. The Big Blue answered with a free throw from Nate Straughter to make it a 72-71 game. John Ittounas gave Elmhurst a 74-71 advantage with 1:06 left in the game. Demarcus Bond layup with 40 seconds to go pulled Millikin to within one at 74-73. Millikin had a chance for a game winning shot, but Matt Woloch intercepted an errant Millikin pass and converted one free throw with 1.7 seconds remaining to seal the victory for Elmhurst.
 
Both teams shot the ball well with Millikin going 29-65 (44.6 percent) from the field and 5-14 (35.7 percent) from beyond the arc. Elmhurst shot 45.6 percent (26-57) from the field and made 5-18 from the free throw line. The Bluejays had a big advantage to the foul line making 18-24 free throws while Millikin converted on 10-14.
 
Welch led Millikin with 24 points and five rebounds. Straughter scored 19 points for the Big Blue and Bond added 13.
 
Ittounas led Elmhurst with 24 points.
