Millikin Wrestling Concludes National Duals

The Millikin wrestling team wrestled two matched at the NWCA National Duals held on January 6-7 at the Kentucky Exposition Center. Millikin was competing in the 24 team NCAA Division III bracket.

In Saturday's first match, the #24 ranked Big Blue lost to 14th ranked University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Millikin won the five lower weight classes scoring two bonus point victories. Platteville took all five of the upper weight classes with four bonus point wins.
Millikin's Zac Blasioli, the fourth ranked wrestler in the latest NWCA individual rankings, won at 125 pounds 11-7. At 133, Big Blue sophomore Coby Haney won by technical fall 20-2. At 141 pounds, Jordan Carson, who is ranked #12 in the weight class, defeated Kyle Neuberger 10-6. Peter McCusker posted a win by fall at 149 pounds and Nathan Callaway scored the Big Blue final victor 2-1 at 157 pounds.

The final match of the tournament featured two teams ranked #24. Millikin is 24th in the NWCA Dual Team rankings with RIT is ranked #24 in the NWCA's Tournament Team rankings. The evenly matched teams wrestled to a 22-22 tie with RIT being declared the winner based on a tiebreaker. Millikin's Tommy Russell picked up a critical six points at 125 with a win by fall. Haney improved to 15-5 on the season with a win by fall at 133. McCusker won at 149 pounds 7-2 and is now 19-3 on the season. Callaway scored a major decision win 10-2 at 157 and is now 16-1 on the year. Dejon Glaster won at 165 pounds for Millikin by decision 2-0.
