Millikin Women’s Basketball Wins Eighth Straight Game

The Millikin women's basketball team returned to College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) action with a 74-55 win over Wheaton College at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois on January 7. The win gives the Big Blue eight straight victories. Millikin remains atop the CCIW standings with a 5-0 record. The Big Blue are 11-3 overall.
 
Millikin led all but 28 seconds in the game building a 20-13 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The Big Blue were up 40-24 at halftime. Wheaton put on a run in the third quarter outscoring Millikin 19-13 and cutting the Big Blue's down to seven with four minutes left to play in the quarter, but Millikin pushed back out to a 53-43 advantage after three quarters of play. Millikin sealed the victory with a strong fourth quarter outscoring Wheaton 21-12.
 
Millikin shot 28-69 (40.6 percent) from the field and went 6-19 (31.6 percent) from three-point range. Wheaton shot 39 percent (21-54) from the field and were 1-14 from three-point range. The Big Blue won the rebounding battle 44-35 and forced Wheaton into 23 turnovers. Thirty of Millikin's 44 rebounds came on the defensive end of the court holding Wheaton to just nine second chance points.
 
Elyce Knudsen led Millikin with 17 points, four rebounds and three assists. Senior Bailey Coffman, playing in her first CCIW game since coming back from injury, added 15 points. Chelsea McCullum scored 11 points. Sophie Darden had eight points and a team high nine rebounds (seven defensive rebounds) with three assists. Miranda Fox had five points along with eight rebounds (seven defensive) and six assists.
 
Caroline Sikkink led Wheaton with 10 points and seven rebounds.
 
Wheaton falls to 8-6 (3-2).
