Football Suffers Heartbreaking Loss at Elmhurst

The Millikin football team suffered a heartbreaking loss 29-27 at Elmhurst University on October 21 in Elmhurst, Illinois.
 
Trailing 27-21 with 3:36 left the game, Millikin rallied to tie the game at 27-27. The big play in the drive was a 64-yard pass play from Aidan Lombardo to Javieon Wallace that took the ball to the Bluejays one-yard line. After a penalty, the Big Blue tied the game on a six-yard run for Matthew Salazar with 1:16 left to play. With Elmhurst out of timeouts, Millikin needed the extra-point to secure the victory. The Bluejays Bryce Gable blocked the kick and Talyn West scooped up the loose ball and returned it for a two-point defensive conversion and the victory. 
 
It was the second big play of the day for the Elmhurst special teams when Etor Agbenya recovered a blocked Big Blue punt in the endzone opening the first quarter scoring resulting in a Bluejays touchdown.
 
Millikin's offense produced two field goals in the first half with David Ramirez hitting from 29 yards in the first quarter and 34 yards early in the second quarter.
 
The game was tied at 6-6 halftime. Elmhurst opened the second half scoring with a defensive touchdown when Agbenya recovered a Millikin fumble in the endzone.
 
On the Elmhurst kickoff, Millikin's Joseph Bibbs returned the ball 70 yards setting up the Millikin offense at the Elmhurst 16-yard line. Millikin scored the first offensive touchdown of the game in the third quarter on a one yard run by Salazar. Salazar converted to two-point conversion run to put the Big Blue up 14-13.
 
Early in the fourth quarter Lombardo connected with Wallace on a 50-yard touchdown pass to make it a 21-13 Big Blue lead.
 
Elmhurst answered with a 64-yard touchdown pass from Andrey Acosta to Jacob Cockrell. The Bluejays missed the two-point conversion try making it a 21-19 Millikin lead with 13:01 left in the game.
 
The Bluejays tied the game with 3:41 left to play on a four-yard touchdown run from Aidan Pollock and a two-point conversion pass from Acosta to Kristian Klinger.  
 
Wallace finished the game with seven catches for 184 yards. Lombardo was 13-34 passing for 280 yards.
 
Millikin had 281 yards of total offense being limited to one yard rushing. Elmhurst had 328 yards of total offense with 284 yards coming through the air.
 
Sean Steele led the Millikin defense with eight tackles and one interception. Devin Williams had eight stops with one pass breakup. KJ Duncan and Wasiu Lawal were also credited with eight total tackles.
 
Acosta was 29-47-1 passing for Elmhurst with one touchdown.
