Big Blue Football Loses to Carthage

The Millikin football team lost its season finale to Carthage College 24-15 on November 11 at Frank M. Lindsay Field in Decatur.
 
Carthage opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 34-yard field goal from Eli Schubert midway through the first quarter.
 
Millikin got on the board with 1:57 left in the first half on a two-yard run from Matthew Salazar. The Big Blue led 7-3 at the half.
 
After a scoreless third quarter, Carthage broke open the game in the fourth quarter with three touchdowns. Bryce Lowe connected on a 42-yard pass to Jordan Wiles to go up 10-7. Twenty-six second later the Firebirds defense put a touchdown on the board.
Tommie King sacked Millikin quarterback Aiden Lombardo forcing a fumble that was recovered and returned 20-yards for the score by Chris DiVito.
 
Midway through the fourth quarter Millikin punter Lucas Mosqueda had a 47-yard punt that was downed at Carthage's own one-yard line. On the Firebirds first play, the Big Blue's Christopher Montgomery made a tackle for a loss for safety to make it a 24-9 game.
 
The Big Blue made it 24-15 on a 52-yard punt return touchdown by Devin Williams.
 
Carthage had 211 yards of total offense while Millikin managed only 145 yards.
 
Millikin had three seniors play their final game all on defense. Montgomery had seven tackles. Linebacker Collin Hancock had five and linebacker Ryan Hoang had two tackles.
 
The Big Blue hosted Football Letter Winners from the past at the game highlight the accomplishments of the 1977, 1978 and 1979 three-peat College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Champions.
