Millikin Women’s Basketball Opens Season with Win

The Millikin women's basketball team opened the 2023-24 season with a 79-40 win over Beloit College on November 8 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois.
 
The Big Blue opened the game outscoring Beloit 23-7 in the first quarter. Millikin blew the game open in the second quarter scoring 34 while holding Beloit to eight for a 57-15 lead at halftime.
 
Millikin shot 53 percent (30-57) from the field and made 14-23 (61 percent) from three point range. Beloit was held to 30 percent (14-47) from the field. Millikin had 44 rebounds with the Buccaneers grabbing 22.
 
Seventeen players saw action for Millikin in the game. Senior All-American Elyce Knudsen was the Big Blue's top scorer with 22 points and seven rebounds. Knudsen was 9-10 from the field including going 4-5 from three-point range. Senior Bailey Coffman had 21 points with seven rebounds. Freshman Christina Rice scored eight points followed by junior transfer Matayia Tellis with seven. Sophomore Bella Dudley and junior transfer Emily Brenneisen each added six points.
 
Beloit had five players tie for the team high in scoring with six points.
 
Millikin will be back at the Griswold Center on November 14 at 7 p.m. hosting Fontbonne University.
