Millikin Baseball Sweeps Pioneers

The Millikin baseball team picked up two important conference road wins sweeping Carroll University on April 29 in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
 
The Big Blue got the offense rolling in the twin bill scoring 29 runs and pounding 33 hits. Millikin improves to 23-14 overall and 9-6 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW). The Big Blue currently sit tied for third place in the CCIW standings. Carroll falls to 15-18, 7-8.
 
Millikin won game one 13-3 pounding out 16 hits. The Big Blue scored two runs in the second and three more in the third inning. The runs in the third came on back-to-back home runs from Sam Bushur (two run homer) and Andy Niebrugge who both hail from Teutopolis, Illinois. The pair were two of six Big Blue players that had two hits in the game. Other with two hits included Kyle Gibson, Liam McGill, Kelby Golladay and Ryan Janssen. Gibson, Bushur, Golladay and Hunter Smith each had two RBI for Millikin.
 
Matt Wilson was the winning pitcher for Millikin improving to 7-0 on the season. He pitched five innings allowing one hit and three runs. Drew Sutton earned the save pitching the final four innings allowing only three hits with five strikeouts. 
 
Nick Herzog had a two-run single to lead the Pioneers offense.
 
In game two, Millikin scored 16 runs on 17 hits and broke open the game with a 10 run ninth inning.
 
Gibson led the Millikin offense going 4-5 including a double with four runs scored and two runs driven in. Niebrugge went 3-5 with a double and a two-run homer. He had four RBI in the game. McGill, Tommy Shaw and Janssen each had two hits. Bushur had three RBI.
 
Drew Detmers was the winning pitcher going to 6-1 on the season. He pitched seven innings allowing six hits and four runs. Sean Shook earned the save throwing the final two hitless innings with four strikeouts.
 
Justin Baker had a double and two RBI for Carroll.
 
Millikin will play its final three conference games at home starting on May 5 at 3 p.m. against Illinois Wesleyan. The Big Blue close out the regular season with a doubleheader against North Park on May 6 starting at 1 p.m.
