Match Recap: Men's Tennis | | D Galvan- Sport Information Intern

Big Blue Men's Tennis Competes at DePauw Invite

The Big Blue men's tennis team traveled to GreenCastle, IN to compete in the Depauw Men's Invite on September 16th through September 17th. The invite consisted of both singles and doubles flights. 

In doubles play, Theo Wolf and Cole Phillips teamed up in the Flight 1 doubles bracket, defeating Rose-Hulman pairing Seneviratne/Reynolds 8-6. Wolf/Phillips then fell to Depauw's pairing of McCook/Buelte 5-8. To secure their 3rd place title, Wolf/Phillips came up on top 8-2 against Capital's pairing of Surles/Welch.

In singles play, Phillips placed 3rd in the Flight 2 bracket. Phillips started with passing by Cota of Olivet Nazarene in two sets, 6-3, 6-1. In the second singles match, Phillips pushed a third set against Depauw's Ryan McCook, but fell 1-6, 7-6(7), 4-10. Phillips then secured his 3rd place title with retired match from Rose-Hulman. 

Freshman Matthew Kordesh fell to Depauw's Roee Sela in the first round 5-7, 6-3. Bouncing back, Kordesh came back and defeated Rose-Hulam's Andrew Leonard in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 11-9. Kordesh then secured his last match of the day against Chris Lian of Rose Hulman, 6-7(8), 7-6(3), 10-6. Kordesh claimed the Flight 4 Consolation winner. 

Freshman Esteban Durand placed 3rd in the Flight 6 bracket, starting with a win over Corey Pollard of Rose-Hulman 6-2, 6-2. Durand then fell to Sam Applegate of Depauw 4-6. 1-6. 

The Big Blue men's tennis team will start back up again on Tuesday, March 26th, traveling to St.Louis, MO to take on Principia College.
