Borunda/Markus Compete at ITA Tournament

Over the weekend, Cristina Borunda and Emily Markus traveled to St.Louis, MO to compete in the ITA tournament that was hosted by Washington University in St.Louis September 22nd-23rd. 

On day one, Markus and Borunda started the day off strong in round 64 with a 8-0 win over Hanover College to move on to round 32. Markus/Borunda fell to the pairing of Sarena Biria/Brooke Pedersen from the University of Chicago. This led the Big Blue to move on to day two to take on Depauw University before falling to Valerie Doherty/Katie King 4-8.

For singles play, Borunda was first on court for the Big Blue for a matchup against Caitlyn Hanulikova of Augustana. Borunda fell to Hanulikova 3-6, 1-6, which moved Borunda to the consolation bracket to take on Washu's Amber Edmonda before falling 0-6, 0-6. Markus took the court to take on North Central's Abigal Penados. After a rain delay and cite change in the second set, Markus fell to Penados 0-6, 2-6. Moving into the consolation bracket, Markus matched up against Wittenberg's Carolina Sproule before falling 2-6, 2-6. 

The Big Blue women's team returns home to take on Elmhurst University Saturday, September 30th at 2:00PM at Fairview Park.
