Women's Soccer Scores 8-0 Win to Improve to 2-0

The Big Blue women's soccer team took the field at Frank M. Lindsay Field for the second time on Labor Day weekend on Sunday, September 3 for a matchup with the Fighting Scots of Monmouth College. Millikin recorded their second win of the season, defeating Monmouth 8-0. 

Bailee Blecker started off the scoring in the 19th minute off an assist from Danielle Piper. Senior Hannah Henson would follow suit in the 38th minute, assisted by Alanna Smith, then a Erin Fleisher unassisted goal in the 43rd minute gave Millikin a 3-0 lead heading into the halftime break. 

In the second half, Hailie Schafman scored her second goal of the season in the 59th minute. Piper was the fifth Millikin player to net a goal. Melis Barutcu scored back-to-back goals afterwards. The first came on a penalty kick goal, then the second in the 68th minute on an assist from Kameron Zurzolo. 

The final goal was scored in the 79th minute by the freshman Smith. 

The Big Blue outshot the Fighting Scots 21-1. Sophie Dorgan recorded the lone save in goal in the first half. 

Millikin will be back in action on Wednesday, September 6 in St. Louis, Mo. against Webster University with the match scheduled for a 7:00 PM kickoff.
