Men's Baskeball Bested by Carthage on the Road

The Millikin men's basketball team traveled to Kenosha, Wis. on Saturday, January 6 for a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin matchup against the Firebirds of Carthage College. The Big Blue fell 78-88 to fall to 2-3 in CCIW play, 6-8 overall.

The Big Blue found themselves down 12 at the half to the Firebirds, 36-48, after Carthage shot 62.5% from the field in the first half, 6-for-12 from three-point land. The first half was tightly contested until Carthage used a late offensive surge in the final two minutes before heading to the locker room for halftime. 

JT Welch led the way offensively for Millikin, scoring 20 points on 7-for-14 shooting. DeMarcus Bond chipped in 18 points and five rebounds. Jaden McClain reeled in seven rebounds and added 10 points. 

Ryan Johnson was the leading scorer for Carthage, tallying 25 points on 8-for-10 shooting, including going 3-for-5 from three point range.

Millikin outrebounded the Firebirds 33-28. Carthage finished the game going 28-for-48 from the field to shoot 58.3% while the Big Blue shot 43.3% from the field. 

Millikin will continue their conference slate on the road on Wednesday, January 10 when they travel to Bloomington, Ill. to face a tough Illinois Wesleyan squad.
