#9 Women's Volleyball Completes Reverse Sweep for Win at Carthage

The #9 Millikin women's volleyball team trekked to Kenosha, Wis. on Wednesday, October 16 to take on the Firebirds of Carthage College for a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin contest. 

In a matchup that saw the Big Blue fall in the first two sets (23-25, 18-25), they completed a reverse sweep for a comeback five-set victory (25-20, 25-16, 15-11). Millikin outkilled the Firebirds 59-53, and won the digs battle with 99 compared to Carthage's 97. 

The reigning CCIW Hitter of the Week Kailee Itzenhuiser led the squad in kills with 16, digs with 31, and aces with three. Reigning CCIW Setter of the Week Alyssa Frederking topped the assists column with 26, and Gracie Shaffer added 24. Defensively, Kyra Carothers notched four blocks. 

In the deciding set, the Big Blue started off to a 3-0 victory, but the Firebirds fought back to tie the set at four apiece, then take a 5-8 victory. A run with Kaitlyn Skowronski behind the service line, complete with a block by Elle Richards and Carothers, knotted the score at eight. A kill by Delaney Higgins gave MU a 12-11 advantage, then a block by Addison Oyer and Sophia Gibbs followed by a Firebird error, then a kill by Oyer sealed the deal for the 15-11 final set.

Carthage was led by Kristina Manojlovic with 17 kills. 

After improving their record to 23-2 overall, 5-1 in CCIW play, the Big Blue volleyball team will take a weekend off before meeting North Park at the Griswold Center on Wednesday, October 23 with game time set for 7:00 PM.
