Men's Soccer Ousted from CCIW Tournament on Penalty Kicks

The Millikin men's soccer team took the field on Saturday, November 2 for the first round of the 2024 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Tournament at Frank M. Lindsay Field in Decatur, Ill. against North Central College. In a match that took penalty kicks to decide, the Big Blue were ousted from the CCIW Tournament after the Cardinals went a perfect five-for-five.

The Big Blue had two breakaway opportunities late in the second overtime that were thwarted by the Cardinals defense.

In the penalty kicks, Joris Rijnja opened with a make. Alexander Wozniak's attempt ricocheted down off the cross bar but didn't cross the line to count as a crucial opening miss for the Big Blue.

Luis Aviles made the next attempt for NCC, and Michael McFarlane matched his make. Aiden Maloney continued the perfect streak for the Cardinals, and the Big Blue matched once again on a make by Nacho Diaz. Jared Urueta made the fourth attempt, and despite Nick Orr matching with a make of his own, Eloi Nyibizi rounded out the perfect round of penalty kicks to advance North Central to the tournament semifinals.

The Big Blue men's soccer team made history in 2024 by hosting a CCIW Tournament round for the first time in program history. They end the season with a 10-6-1 record after making the conference tournament for the first time since 2014.
