Millikin Wrestling Second at CCIW Championship

The Millikin University wresting team finished in second place at the 2024 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Wrestling Championships held on Feb. 15 at Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Illinois. The Big Blue have finished in the top two in the conference tournament for the last five seasons. After three straight titles, Millikin has back-to-back second place finishes in the last two seasons.

Millikin senior Dejon Glaster won his third straight CCIW Individual Championship winning at 174 pounds. Five Big Blue wrestlers joined Glaster in earning All-Conference honors. Zac Blasioli, Nathan Callaway and Chance Cole all scored second place finishes with Coby Haney and Mason Clem finishing in third place in their weight classes.

Glaster had two wins by fall to advance to the Championship match against Christian Komitas of Aurora. With the match tied a 1-1 with 1:30 remaining, Glaster scored the winning take down to go up 4-1. Glaster improved to 20-3 on the season.

The 125 pound weight class featured the top two ranked wrestlers in NCAA Division III. Second ranked Blasioli opened the competition with a win by Fall in 59 seconds before posting an 11-1 major decision in the semifinals. In the Championship match, Blasioli lost to number one ranked Christian Guzman of North Central 7-5. Blasioli is now 18-2 on the year.

Callaway finished second at 157 pounds. He had a win by Fall and a major decision victory before falling in the title match to Javen Estrada of North Central 20-5. Callaway in now 24-4. The match was another battle of nationally ranked wrestlers with Estrada ranked fifth in the country and Callaway 12th.

Cole had a strong showing at 165. After an 8-2 win in the quarterfinals, Cole scored an impressive semifinal win by technical fall 15-0 over Christian Gilbert of Carthage. Cole last the Championship match 11-4 to Alex Villar of North Central.

Haney went 3-1 at 133 pounds winning the Third Place match by major decision 11-2.
Clem was 3-2 at 197 pounds winning the Third Place match by Fall.

North Central was the team champion with 169.5 points followed by Millikin with 128 and Concordia-Wisconsin with 110.5.
