Millikin Baseball Advances to CCIW Championship Game

For the second straight day, the Millikin baseball posted a 10-run rule victory in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Tournament on May 11 in Chicago, Illinois. On Saturday, Millikin stunned North Park University 16-3 in seven innings on its own field. The Vikings shared the CCIW Regular Season title with the Big Blue.
 
Millikin will play in the tournament Championship game on Sunday, May 12 at 11 a.m. against the winner of Saturday evening's North Park vs. Augustana game. The double elimination format means Sunday's opponent will need to win twice to keep Millikin from claiming the CCIW Tournament title and the automatic bid to the 2024 NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament.
 
Against the Vikings, Millikin scored two runs in the first inning, two in the fourth, one in the fifth, two in the sixth and broke the game wide open with a nine run seventh inning.
 
Tyler Gade powered the Millikin offense going 3-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. Ryan Janssen had two hits including a double and drove in three runs. Tommy Shaw had two hits including a double driving in two runs and scoring three. Sam Bushur had a two-run home run and drove in two more runs with sacrifice flies. Andy Neibrugge and Liam McGill each had two hits. Kyle Gibson had two RBI.
 
Drew Detmers was the winning pitcher for Millikin throwing six and two-third innings allowing three runs on five hits while walking four and striking out four. Detmers shutout the Vikings until two outs in the seventh before yielding two walks and a three-run homer to Alex Divito. Drew Sutton got the final out of the game.
 
Millikin is now 28-14 while North Park falls to 30-12.
