Big Blue Eliminated from NCAA Tournament

The Millikin baseball team lost to Hanover College 4-3 eliminating them from the NCAA DIII Granville, Ohio Regional on May 18 in Granville, Ohio.

Millikin jumped out to an early 1-0 advantage. Tyler Gade led off the bottom of the first with a triple and scored on a run scoring single from Kyle Gibson.

Hanover answered in the top of the second. Connor Farnsley led off the inning with a double and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Andrew Oesterling.

With the game tied 1-1, Millikin scored twice in the third inning. Gade again got things going with a single. Gade scored on a single from Ryan Janssen with Gibson, who had walked, scoring on a Hanover throwing error to make it 3-1.

Hanover took the lead with a three-run fourth inning. Reid Douglas drove in the first run with a single. Matthew McCoy then doubled home two to make it a 4-3 lead for the Panthers.

Millikin loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth inning but the rally fell short when Panther first baseman Matt McCoy made a great play on a foul ball catching the ball as he tumbled over the fence.

Millikin had 10 hits in the game and drew seven walks but had trouble scoring runs leaving 14 runners on base.
