Millikin Baseball Co-CCIW Regular Season Champions

The Millikin baseball team split a doubleheader with Wheaton College on May 4 at the Workman Family Baseball Field in Decatur to become the 2024 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Regular Season Co-Champion. The Big Blue finished the conference season 16-4 tied with North Park University. Due to the tiebreaker, North Park will be the number one seed and host of the upcoming CCIW Tournament while the Big Blue will be the two seed.
 
The regular season title is the ninth CCIW Championship in baseball, but the first since 1975.
 
Millikin won game one 9-1 to earn the conference title. Millikin scored two in the third and broke the game open with a five run fourth inning.
 
Tommy Shaw led the Millikin attack going 2-4 with triple and two RBI. Millikin was limited to five hits in the game but drew 12 walks and took advantage of two Thunder errors. Tyler Gade had a double and two walks and drove in two runs. Kamron Ross tripled and scored two runs.
 
Caleb Buehrle was the winning pitcher throwing seven shutout innings allowing just five hits with four strikeouts.
 
Kyle Wu had three hits for Wheaton with Mason Diel and Daniel Hillyer adding two.
 
Millikin lost game two 3-2. Wheaton scored twice in the first inning. Millikin added single runs in the third and fifth to tie the game at 2-2. The Thunder scored in the game winning run in the seventh on an RBI single from Harrison Stanton.
 
Shaw and Ross each had two hits for the Big Blue. Shaw and Kyle Gibson had the Millikin RBI.
 
Stanton, Wu and Hillyer each had two hits for Wheaton. Brendan Dyer was the winning pitcher throwing all nine innings allowing seven hits and two runs while striking out six.
 
Millikin ends the regular season 26-14, 16-4 while Wheaton goes to 11-26, 5-15.
 
North Park won at Illinois Wesleyan 15-2 to earn a share of the title and the number one seed.
 
Millikin will play in the CCIW Tournament on Thursday with time and opponent to be announced.
