Women's Volleyball Opens 2024 Season with Two Victories in Colorado

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Big Blue women's volleyball team traveled to Colorado Springs, Colorado for their first games of the season on Friday, August 30 at the Pikes Peak Challenge hosted by Colorado College.

In their opening matchup, the Big Blue met the hosts and defeated Colorado College in a 3-1 match (25-20, 19-25, 25-19, 25-13).

The Big Blue outkilled CC 46-44 in a match that saw Kailee Itzenhuiser lead MU with 13 kills. Addison Oyer added 11. Delaney Higgins and Kyra Carothers each notched five blocks, and Itzenhuiser led the team defensively with 13 digs. Gracie Shaffer was the assists leader with 19, and Alyssa Frederking added 15.

For Colorado College, Camille Sherrill notched 13 kills.

In their second match of the day, the Big Blue matched up against the AVCA preseason ranked #11 Transylvania. In a match that took all five sets to decide, the Big Blue were the victors (25-17, 25-20, 21-25, 26-28, 15-10).

Itzenhuiser led the way in kills again with 18, with Oyer adding 12. Frederking tallied 19 assists with Shaffer notching 18. Sophia Howell was the digs leader with 19.

The Big Blue will be back in action on Saturday, August 31 with another set of tough contests against fifth ranked UW-Oshkosh and sixteenth ranked Gustavus Adolphus.
