Triathlon Opens Season at Cardinal Splash and Dash

The Big Blue women's triathlon team opened up their 2024 campaign at the Cardinal Splash and Dash hosted by North Central College on Saturday, August 31 in Naperville, Ill.

The race consisted of a 400-yard swim followed by a 1.5-mile run on track. Athletes started on the pool deck for their swim, then with their running shoes on, athletes followed the sidewalk towards the stadium track where they ran six laps.

Aly Barnes was the top finisher for the Big Blue finishing the modified race in a time of 18:58. Barnes was the first swimmer to exit the water in a time of 4:39.Anjaleah Knowles finished second in a time of 19:36. Brenna Pacheco finished in a time of 19:50, Karson Bluette was next in 21:09, followed by Kendall Rossignol with a time of 22:37, then Yoanna Barajas finished the modified race in 24:50.

North Central's Hailey Poe was the race's top finisher in a time of 16:01. In the head to head matchup, the Big Blue were outscored by the Cardinals 20-65.

The Big Blue will participate in their first full race of the season in Grand Rapids, Mich. on Saturday, September 7 at the Reed's Lake Triathlon hosted by Calvin University.
