Millikin Wrestling Splits Matches on Day 1 of NWCA National Duals

The #17 ranked Millikin University wrestling team split its two matches on the first day of the NWCA National Duals on January 10 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The Big Blue lost its opening match to #24 Luther College 26-14 and won its second bout 21-20 in a tiebreaker over Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT).

Millikin picked up three weight class wins against Luther with the Big Blue's ranked wrestlers leading the way. Senior Coby Haney, ranked eighth in NCAA Division III at 133 pounds, won over Connor Kidd 8-1. Senior Dejon Glaster, ranked fifth in the NWCA rankings at 174, won by technical fall 17-1 over Braeden Hendel. Chase Mirelez won at 149 pounds by fall at 1:25.

Millikin won five matches in the win over RIT. Cam Lee opened the match with a 13-6 win at 125 pounds. Haney improved to 13-0 on the season with an 18-1 technical fall win. Joey Jens won at 165 8-3 over Jack Lamson. Glaster won by fall at 174 and Beincio Martinez won 5-0 at 184. After RIT won the last two matches to tie the dual at 20-20, Millikin relied on every point scored in the match to win the total point tiebreaker.

Millikin will face #24 Cornell College on Saturday at 9 a.m.
