Men's Basketball Falls in Tightly Contested Matchup

The Big Blue men's basketball team matched up against the Bluejays of Elmhurst University on Saturday, January 18 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Ill. In a tightly contested game, the Big Blue fell in a 65-69 contest.

Lane Thomann was the leading scorer with 26 points, shooting 8-for-9 from the field, 2-for-3 from behind the three point line. Nate Straughter added 10 points. Frazier Ott was the leading rebounder with four. The Big Blue shot 25-for-48 from the field for a 57.1%, compared to the Bluejays 49% on 24-for-29 shooting. 

Elmhurst was led by Tagen Pearson with 19 points, and Sebastian Blachut and Dominic Trelenberg each chipped in 13 apiece. 

The Big Blue went into the halftime break down two with the score at 32-34. After taking the lead with 2:35 remaining in the first half on a three by Nate Straughter, but Elmhurst chipped away on a few trips to the free throw line to take the two point advantage. 

The game remained back and forth, with Elmhurst taking as much as an eight point lead with 9:35 remaining. The Big Blue rallied, taking a one point lead on a jumper by Thomann, then going up three on another jumper by Thomann. 

Elmhurst tied things up with just 28 seconds left to tick, taking a lead on the and-one, adding to the lead after a missed shot by the Big Blue and making three of their next four free throws when MU was forced to foul. 

Millikin will be back in action on Wednesday, January 22 when they head north to Wheaton, Ill. to take on the Thunder of Wheaton College in another College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin matchup set for a 7:00 PM tipoff.
