Men's Basketball Notches First Victory of 2025 against Carroll

The Millikin men's basketball team returned to the Griswold Center on Saturday, January 4 for their first matchup of 2025 against College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin foe Carroll University. The Big Blue were victorious to move to 2-1 in CCIW play in an 81-66 win. The Pioneers fell to 0-4 in conference play with the loss.

Lane Thomann was the leading scorer with 20 points, going a perfect 5-for-5 from the field, including 2-for-2 beyond the arc, and 8-for-8 from the free throw line. He added six rebounds and two assists. DeMarcus Bond chipped in 16 points, six rebounds, four assists, and two steals to earn McDonald's Player of the Game honors. Tionne Spates was the leading rebounder with seven. 

Millikin shot 63% from the field, including going 4-for-7 from three-point land. 

Erik Victorson was the leading scorer for the Pioneers with 23 points. Jacob Naber added 41. Eckahelo Simpson was their leading rebounder with five. 

The Big Blue held a 36-26 lead at the halftime break. They started off the second half on a 7-0 run and only surrendered their double-digit advantage once when Carroll cut the lead to nine with 12:56 remaining on a three pointer off the hand of Aaron Wafford, making the score 48-39. 

Millikin will travel to Rock Island, Ill. on Wednesday, January 8 for a matchup with Augustana College.
