Women's Volleyball Downed by Hope to Start Tournament Weekend

The Millikin women's volleyball team traveled to Holland, Mich. for their opening matchup of the Hope College Tournament against the host Flying Dutch. The Big Blue fell in a tough matchup to #12 Hope, 1-3 (23-25, 21-25, 29-27, 20-25). 

In the match, Addison Oyer and Delaney Higgins led the way with 12 kills apiece. Elle Richards added 11 kills. Samantha Breckenridge tallied three service aces, and Alyssa Frederking was the assists leader with 31. Defensively, Kyra Carothers totaled six blocks and Higgins was the digs leader with 19. 

Brook Fox, Ella Contant, and Kiera Morrison all recorded 13 kills for the Dutch. 

In a back-and-forth third set, the Big Blue took a 14-8 lead on a Charley Condill service ace. The Dutch stormed back and tied it at 15 apiece, then took the lead on a service ace by Fox. A kill by Carothers followed by a service ace by Carothers at 27-27 gave the Big Blue the set victory to extend the match to the fourth set.

Millikin will look to bounce back on Saturday, October 11 when they meet #8 UW-Eau Claire and (RV) Coe College in the stacked tournament lineup.
