Football Battles #1 North Central in Naperville

The Big Blue football team traveled to Naperville, Ill. on Saturday, October 11 for a matchup with the #1 team in NCAA Division III, North Central. In the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin matchup, Millikin battled the Cardinals but fell 10-59.

The Cardinals opened their first drive with a 53-yard touchdown pass from Garret Wilson to Thomas Skokna on the two play drive. Later in the first, Aidan Ellison put a 50 yard field goal try through the uprights to take a ten-point lead.

Early in the second quarter, after a muffed punt by the Cardinals was recovered by Kyle Corkill, Bryson Newport's made field goal from 38-yards away cut the deficit, putting the Big Blue down 3-10.

North Central came right back with two scores of their own, with Wilson connecting with Skokna twice more, first from 62 yards, then a 34 yard touchdown, both on possessions that lasted less than a minute.

Down 3-24, the Big Blue found the end zone with Darion Suber scoring on a 10 yard pass from Sylas Gomez

From there, it was all North Central. The Cardinals scored once more before the halftime break on a two yard pass from Wilson to Grant McAtee.

Wilson would find Skokna twice more in the third quarter to add to rushing touchdowns from Demir Ahsiru and Zeb Rashid to finish out the 10-59 game.

Gomez was 10-for-22 for 108 yards. Matthew Thurman was the leading receiver with three catches for 59 yards.

Defensively, Ryan Baskerville and Alex Araiza tallied eight tackles apiece, including one tackle for loss.

Millikin will return home on Saturday, October 18 for the Real Men Wear Pink Game against Illinois Wesleyan, set for 6:00 PM kickoff.
