Big Blue Comes up Just Short in Five against Carthage

The Millikin women's volleyball team wrapped up their 2025 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin campaign on their home floor at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Ill. on November 5, 2025 against Carthage College. 

The Big Blue fell in a hard-fought five-set battle (25-21, 17-25, 19-25, 25-20, 12-15). Millikin outkilled the Firebirds in the match, 61-59 and won the digs battle 78-71. 

In the match, Delaney Higgins led the way with 14 kills. Gabriella Ricci added 12 and Kyra Carothers chipped in 11. Alyssa Frederking totaled 33 set assists, eclipsing the 2,000 career assists milestone in the fifth set. Defensively, Kylie Ramirez totaled 26 digs, and Carothers recorded four blocks. 

The first set saw the Big Blue pull away late, taking a 23-19 lead on a kill by Carothers. Kills by Elle Richards and Addison Oyer marked the last two points for Millikin.

After falling in two straight, the Big Blue rebounded to take the fourth set and force the deciding fifth set. 

A kill off the hand of Oyer gave the Big Blue the lead early, but Carthage went on two separate four-point runs to take an 8-14 lead. With Ramirez behind the service line, the Big Blue tallied three straight points to get within two, but a kill from Madilyn Danielson sealed the win for the Firebirds.

Kristina Manojlovic posted the top number of kills for the Firebirds with 14. Ava Dettwiler and Emma Crow each added 11.

The Big Blue will close out their season at home against DePauw and WashU at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Ill. on November 8 with games starting at 11 am and 3 pm.
