Football Suffers Loss at #18 Wheaton

The Millikin football team faced yet another tough test on the road at #18 Wheaton College on Saturday, November 8 in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin play. The Big Blue fell 14-61 in the contest.

The Thunder got on the board first, scoring 27 points in the first quarter alone. They started with a Matt Crider 21-yard rushing touchdown. Not much later, they'd add a two-play, 69 yard drive that ended in a 45-yard touchdown connection between Mark Forcucci and Thomas Greupner. With 3:57 left on the clock, Aidan Kingsbury punched in a four-yard touchdown run, and Malachi Jones added a 27-yard score on a pass from Forcucci with 35 seconds left on the first quarter clock after a Millikin punt was blocked and recovered at the Millikin 28 by the Thunder.

Forcucci would go on to add another 11 yard passing touchdown on a 2 play, 19-yard drive, capitlizing on a Millikin fumbled punt. Wheaton added another touchdown, this one through the air to Crider on a 45-yard connection to put Wheaton up 0-41.

The Big Blue put together their first touchdown drive, with Sylas Gomez completing a 15-yard touchdown pass to Matthew Thurman to head into the halftime break down 7-41.

After receiving the second half kickoff, Wheaton forced the Big Blue to a turnover on downs and added another touchdown on a Crider 28-yard rushing touchdown, with Crider posting his second straight week with three touchdowns.

Another Big Blue turnover on a fumble by Bryson Boes would give the ball back to the Thunder, with Wheaton capitalizing again on a Seamus O'Connell seven-yard touchdown pass to Greupner.

Down 7-55, the Big Blue forced a Wheaton fumble, scoring on a Kevin Louis 18-yard touchdown pass from Gomez.

Wheaton added their final touchdown on their next possession on an O'Connell three-yard rushing touchdown.

Gomez was 16-for-29 for 124 passing yards and two touchdowns. Re'John Zeno was the leading rusher with 50 yards on nine carries. Louis was the leading receiver with 54 yards on five receptions.

Defensively, Ryan Baskerville totaled 15 tackles. Zechariah Miller and Quinton Tucker each tallied tackles for loss, and Tucker and Qowiyu Amuda posted forced fumbles.

The Big Blue will meet their final foe of the 2025 season on Saturday, November 15 when the Bluejays of Elmhurst travel to Decatur, Ill. for a 12:00 PM kickoff.
