Slow Start Plagues Women's Basketball in CCIW Matchup with Augie

Despite an ongoing snow storm, the Big Blue matched up with the Vikings of Augustana College on Saturday, December 13 in a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin contest at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Ill. 

A slow offensive start plagued the Big Blue, scoring just nine points in the first quarter while Augustana totaled 19. Millikin headed into the halftime break down 19-30. 

Nikkel Johnson, who is 16th nationally in NCAA Division III, averaging 20.7 points per game, was notably held to just seven points in the matchup. She picked up two fouls in the first half, and a third shortly after on a technical foul after an and-one in the second quarter. Johnson was the leading scorer for the Big Blue and totaled five rebounds in the 37-76 loss. 

The Big Blue shot just 22.2% from the field (14-for-63) and a cold 16.7% from three-point land (4-for-24). Augustana won the rebounding battle 29-54. 

Tia Lewis was the leading scorer for the Vikings with 18 points. Audrey Erickson chipped in 12 points. 

The Big Blue will travel to warmer temps and look to bounce back with two matchups in Puerto Rico, meeting Marymount University on Friday, December 19 at the Roger Mendoza Coliseum for a 6:00 PM AST start time.
