Women's Basketball Kicks off Puerto Rico Clasico with Win over Marymount

Escaping to warmer temperatures, the Big Blue women's basketball team kicked off their two-game stint at the Puerto Rico Clasico on Friday, December 19 matching up against Marymount University. 

The Big Blue got off to a hot start, scoring the first six points of the game on back-to-back three pointers by Tatum Young and Bella Dudley. Millikin scored 20 points in the first quarter to lead 20-12 at the end of the first quarter. 

Marymount rallied in the second, outscoring the Big Blue to bring the score to 31-28 at the halftime break.

In a cold shooting second half, Millikin held Marymount to just 13 points, taking a 47-41 victory to open up the tournament in Puerto Rico. 

Millikin shot 9-for-18 in the first quarter. The Big Blue held the lead for most of the game, with Marymount taking a 37-38 lead with eight minutes remaining. The Big Blue responded, immediately re-taking the lead on a free throw by Dudley and a three point make by Kyleigh Heimsness to go up 41-38.  

Nikkel Johnson was the leading scorer with 14 points on 5-for-8 shooting for the Big Blue, also reeling in a team-high five rebounds. Dudley added 13 points.

Millikin won the rebounding battle 34-22.

Catie Kolwey was Marymount's leading scorer with 13 points. Kaylah Barr added 12 points. 

The Big Blue will be back in action on Saturday, December 20 when they meet the Milwaukee School of Engineering at 3:45 PM Atlantic Standard Time in their final game of the Puerto Rico Clasico.
