Softball Sweeps Wheaton in CCIW Twin Bill

The Millikin softball team continued their Chicagoland weekend in Wheaton, Ill. on Saturday, April 12 against the Thunder of Wheaton College. The Big Blue swept in the doubleheader, winning both in short games.

In game one, it was a 10-2 game. Anna Enlow started off the scoring in the top of the first inning with a two-run homerun that also plated Charley Condill. Ann Marie Meek tacked on another run on a single they scored Kendallyn Davison. Bella Palermo scored the fourth run of the inning on a single by Ava Zukowski

In the fourth inning, the Big Blue extended their lead when the bases cleared with Abby Willis, Condill, and Emily Kobel scoring when Summer Wynn reached on an error. Wynn later crossed the plate on Davison's single to right.

In the fifth, Millikin added two more runs to take a 10-0 lead in the fifth when Willis doubled, scoring Condill and Kobel.

Wheaton tacked on two of their own in the bottom of the fifth on a homerun, but it wasn't enough to extend the game.

Condill went 2-for-3 in game one. Kelsey Bruno struck out seven in her 5.0 innings of work, allowing five hits.

In game two, the Big Blue wrapped things up in the sixth inning in a 9-1 game.

They started the scoring off in the first inning with Willis singling to center, scoring Condill. Then, in the second Condill's bunt single scored Palermo to put MU up 2-0.

Wheaton notched a run of their own in the fifth inning, but the Big Blue had an answer. Condill singled to score Kobel. A sacrifice bunt off the bat of Willis scored Condill to extend the lead to 4-1. Palermo added on two more with a double that scored Abbey Matthews and Enlow.

Millikin added three more in the sixth to finish the game off, first when Kobel scored on a single by Willis. The final runs crossed the plate when Willis and Condill scored on a single by Kailyn Coates

The sweep pushed the Big Blue to 4-2 in conference play.

Condill went 4-for-4 at the plate. Carly Ward earned the win, allowing only two hits, and Alyssa Dralle offered an inning of relief with just one hit allowed.

Millikin will be back in action when they meet rival Illinois Wesleyan on Tuesday, April 14 at the Workman Family Softball Field.
