The Millikin softball team took the field at the Workman Family Softball Field on Friday, April 18 for a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin doubleheader. The Big Blue picked up a sweep in the contest, winning game one 7-0 and taking game two 3-2.
In game one, the Big Blue scored three runs in the first inning, starting when Kendallyn Davison reached on a fielder's choice that scored Abby Willis. Then, a Bella Palermo single down the right field line scored Anna Enlow. A sacrifice fly off the bat of Ann Marie Meek plated Summer Wynn to put the Big Blue up 3-1.
Millikin added another three runs in the fourth, with Emily Kobel scoring on a wild pitch, Charley Condill scoring on a passed ball, and Willis scoring when Wynn reached on a fielder's choice.
The Big Blue tacked on their seventh and final run in the sixth when Wynn laid down a sacrifice bunt.
Willis went 2-for-4 from the plate in game one, scoring three runs for the Big Blue in the 7-0 victory.
Kelsey Bruno pitched 6.0 innings for MU, picking up a win allowing just two hits and striking out four. Alyssa Dralle struck out one and allowed one hit in her inning of relief.
In game two, North Central scored two loud runs with homeruns in the second and third innings off the bats of Kayla Crabtree and Bailey Miller to take a two-run lead.
A triple by Meek in the fifth inning scored Brianna Denault to chip away at the deficit, then a single up the middle by Ava Zukowski tied the score at two apiece. In the sixth, the Big Blue took the lead with an Enlow triple to right center that scored Willis, securing the 3-2 win.
Carly Ward picked up the complete game victory, striking out one and allowing six hits.
The Cardinals put two runners aboard in the bottom of the seventh, but the Big Blue secured the final three outs to take the sweep.
The Big Blue move to 6-4 in conference play with the sweep. They'll head to Wisconsin next weekend to meet Carthage and Carroll to continue CCIW play.
