Softball Splits with Carroll to Wrap up Wisconsin Road Trip

The Millikin softball team continued their Wisconsin road trip with a doubleheader against Carroll on Sunday, April 27 in Waukesha, Wis. Millikin split, winning game one 4-2 before falling in game two, 2-8.

In game one, the Big Blue got on the board in the third inning when Abby Willis delivered a single to center to plate Ava Zukowski. Carroll matched the run on a squeeze bunt in the bottom of the fourth.

In the fifth, it took just one swing to swing things back in Millikin's favor when Zukowski tripled down the left field line, advancing home on a Pioneer throwing error. They added another pair on Summer Wynn's double to right center, scoring Willis and Charley Condill to take a 4-2 lead later that inning.

The Pioneers brought one more runner home in the sixth, but the Big Blue came away with the 4-2 victory.

Zukowski went 2-for-3 from the plate, and Condill and Willis were each 2-for-4 in game one.

Kelsey Bruno earned the win in the circle, pitching a complete game, striking out four, and allowing only five hits.

Game two saw things go in Carroll's favor early, scoring one run in the first then a pair in the top of the second. Millikin chipped away in the fourth, scoring a run on Bella Palermo's single to center that brought home Kendallyn Davison

The Pioneers used a three-run fifth inning to regain momentum and tke a 1-6 lead. Haley Willan's single to left scored Condill in the fifth, but the Pioneers put the game away with two insurance runs in the seventh.

Willan went 2-for-2 from the plate in game two, and Condill was 2-for-3 at the plate. Carly Ward was charged with a loss in the circle.
