Women's Golf Hosts Dechert Classic

The Millikin women's golf team wrapped up its annual Dechert Classic hosted at South Side Country Club in Decatur, Ill. on September 26-27, 2025. The tournament is named after the late Marilyn Dechert who coached the women's golf program from 2002-2015. At this year's Homecoming, Coach Dechert is being inducted into the Millikin Athletic Hall of Fame posthumously.

Big Blue women got off to a strong start in the first round posting 337 trailing the leader, Illinois Wesleyan by 1 shot. The team was led by Sophomore Ruby Haegen who opened up with a 8-over par, 80. The team battled hard in the final round but fell back to 3rd place shooting a 343. The total of 680 placed 3rd behind Coe College and Team Champion Illinois Wesleyan. Several Millikin players placed well individually in the tournament with Junior Ava Hackman and Haegen finishing in a tie for 6th place. Following closely was Sophomore Zoey Beard who improved from round 1 to round 2 shooting 86-83 to finish in 11th place. Two other Millikin golfers placed in the top 20. Freshmen Kelis Morris and Junior Madelyn Beck tied for 17th shooting 177 overall.

Next up for the Big Blue Women is the CCIW Conference Championship on October 6-8 at Metamora Fields GC in Metamora, IL.
