The Millikin men's basketball team picked up an important road victory Wednesday night, outlasting Elmhurst 83–77 in overtime to improve to 11–3 overall and 3–2 in CCIW play.
Millikin controlled much of the contest, holding the lead for over 40 minutes of game time, before Elmhurst rallied late in regulation to force overtime. The Big Blue responded with composure in the extra period, outscoring the Bluejays 14–8 to secure the conference win.
Nate Straughter and Ian Winkler paced the Millikin offense with 20 points apiece, while Lane Thomann added 19 points and six rebounds. Chris Ketchum provided a strong spark off the bench, finishing with 14 points on efficient shooting.
Millikin shot 50 percent from the field for the game and held a significant advantage in the paint, scoring 38 points inside. The Big Blue also capitalized on second-chance opportunities, outscoring Elmhurst 16–11. In overtime, the Big Blue made timely defensive stops and converted at the free-throw line to pull away.
Millikin will look to build on the momentum as it returns to action Saturday, Jan. 10, traveling to Carroll University.
