Decatur, IL— Millikin University women's soccer hosted Augustana College of Illinois at Frank M. Lindsay Field Saturday afternoon for a Collegiate Conference in Illinois and Wisconsin matchup. Both teams were looking for their first win in conference play, and the Big Blue got it done with a final score of 4-0 over the Vikings.
Captain Izzy Jones led the way with the first goal unassisted 16 minutes into the first half with a tough shot to the top left corner of the post, out of reach for the Vikings goalkeeper. Going back-to-back, Jones went to score her second goal of the game with a long pass from Addison Weed to assist her. These two points on the board put Jones at 16 goals on the 2026 season.
To wrap up the first half of regulation, Millikin was eager to score in the last minute. At 44:51, Caty Schmidt put in a goal with under ten seconds left with and assist from Quinn Orrick, helping to create space.
To open the second half of play, the Big Blue proved that everything was in their favor. Approaching minute 56, Jones attempted a slightly off target shot that was hit off the foot of an Augustana player. With a lucky bounce, the ball ricocheted into the goal off a Viking, giving Millikin a goal to go up 4-0.
Goalkeeper of Millikin, Jessica Bearley appeared for 90 minutes of play, finishing with five saves on Augustana's five shots on goal; adding another shutout to her resume. Bearley now sits at 55 saves on the season with three shutouts.
"I'm very pleased with today's performance. We bounced back properly and have given ourselves momentum to build on," says Head Coach Ian Doherty. Falling into a standstill, the Big Blue improved to 7-5-3 overall and 1-2-3 in CCIW play with this well needed win over Augustana.
Millikin women's soccer returns to the field next Saturday, October 24 for a home conference matchup. The Big Blue will welcome North Park to Frank M. Lindsay Field with kickoff set for 2 PM, also being streamed on the CCIW Network.
