Match Recap: Men's Tennis | | Morgan Vogels

Men's Tennis Earns Pair of Sweeping Victories

The Millikin men's tennis team traveled to Jacksonville, Ill. on Saturday, March 14 for matches against Illinois Valley Community College and Illinois College. The Big Blue earned two sweeping victories on the day, winning both matches 7-0. 

Against IVCC, the doubles pair of Gillian Nahum and Jorge Aura won 6-0 at No. 1 over Tyson Phillips and Fabricio Barron. Harry Masterman and Eduardo Vargas saw a similar fate at No. 2, downing Colin Krug and Alan Sifuentes 6-0. Nils Fischer and Thomas Tartari teamed up to complete the doubles sweep with a 6-2 victory over Michael Milota and Nick Olivero at No. 3.

In singles play, Nahum took the No. 1 win with 6-0, 6-1 set scores over Barron. Tartari was the victor at No. 2, winning the first set 6-2 before a 7-3 tiebreaker was needed to settle the second set over John Crane. Masterman recorded twin 6-1 sets against Olivero at No. 3, then Aura defeated Sifuentes 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4. At No. 5, Fischer was victorious 6-1, 6-1 over Milota, then Elijah Aumann downed Moss 6-1, 6-0 to complete the 7-0 sweep. 

Against the host Blueboys, Nahum and Aura teamed up again at No. 1 for a 6-3 victory over Jeff Wernsing and Adi Basic. Masterman and Vargas followed suit once again, defeating Glenn Conway and Andrus Dupre 6-3 at No. 2. Finally, Fischer and Tartari held on for a 7-5 victory at No. 3 over Tejas Zala and Ryne Breyer.

In singles play, Nahum started off with another 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1, defeating Basic. Vargas picked up the victory at No. 2, with 7-5, 6-1 set scores over Wernsing. Tartari posted twin 6-3 victories at No. 3 to defeat Zala. Masterman was victorious once again, winning 6-3, 6-2 over Conway at No. 4. Aura earned his second individual victory of the day at No. 5, beating Andrus Dupre 6-1, 6-3, then Fischer brought up the rear at No. 6 with 6-3, 6-1 victories over Grayson Dupre.

The Big Blue will be back in action on Wednesday, March 18 when they travel to Chicago, Ill. to take on Judson University for an 11:00 AM match.
