Big Blue Baseball Explodes for Ten-Run Win

The Big Blue baseball team traveled to Naperville, Ill. on Tuesday, April 21 for a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin matchup against the Cardinals of North Central College. Millikin won the game 13-3 in an eight inning contest. 

North Central got the scoring started with a homerun by Parker Wyatt in the second inning and a sacrifice fly by Luke Wallace.

The Big Blue tied the game with one swing from Pete Britton in the fifth, singling down the left field line with Leyton Ivers and Anderson Decker scoring. Carder Reich and Britton used their speed on the basepaths, with Britton scoring on an error. Sam Busher's triple later scored Reich to put the Big Blue up 4-2. A Mick Niebrugge homerun scored two more, then a Gage Reynolds homerun brought him and Easton Steck home.

Up 8-2, the Big Blue got to work again in the sixth. Reynolds singled up the middle to plate Bushur, A wild pitch scored Niebrugge, then Ivers' single up the middle plated Steck. Another wild pitch brought Reynolds home to score the 12th run.

The Cardinals chipped away with a homerun by Ryan Huskey, but the Big Blue scored the 13th run on a Britton single through the left side to plate Decker.

Ivers went 3-for-5 from the plate. Reynolds and Britton each tallied three RBIs.

Brayden Saling earned the victory on the mound, tossing 5.0 innings pitched. Gavin Houchins picked up the save in 3.0 innings of work, striking out five.

Millikin will travel to Chicago, Ill. for a doubleheader with North Park on Saturday, April 25.
