Softball Splits Final Regular Season Doubleheader against North Park

The Millikin softball team took the field at the Workman Family Softball Field on Sunday, May 3 for their final regular season doubleheader against the Vikings of North Park University.

In game one, the Vikings got on the board in the top of the first with a pair of runs on four straight hits. An Eden Baker solo homerun in the top of the second put the Big Blue down three.

Millikin cut the deficit in the bottom of the fourth, with Abbey Matthews delivering an RBI double to plate Summer Wynn.  They tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth on a triple down the right field line off the bat of Ann Marie Meek that plated Abby Willis. Meek scored on Wynn's second double of the game to tie the game at 3-3.

North Park added four runs in the top of the seventh in a six-hit inning. Heading into the final inning with their top of the order up, Abby Willis reached on a double and was immediately brought home by a homerun off the bat of Meek. The Vikings took game one 5-7, exploding for 18 hits.

At the dish for the Big Blue in game one, Willis, Meek, and Wynn all went 2-for-4.

In game two, a slow offensive start saw the first runs of the game plated in the bottom of the third. With two outs and the bases loaded, Haley Willan sent a hit to left field, scoring Meek and Wynn. A double by Matthews brought Kailyn Coates home to give Millikin a 3-0 advantage.

Meek once again found the right field gap for her second triple of the day in the bottom of the fourth to score Willis from first, another two out RBI for the Big Blue.

The Vikings loaded the bases in the top of the fifth with no outs, but the Big Blue defense held strong to collect three straight outs and hold NPU scoreless. They chipped away in the top of the sixth, scoring a run after a hit by pitch and back-to-back singles.

Meek's single through the right side served as another two out RBI in the bottom of the sixth, bringing Ava Zukowski home to the dish to regain the four-run advantage, 5-1, giving Millikin the game two victory in the doubleheader split.

In game two, Meek went 3-for-4 from the plate and Willan was 2-for-3.

Alyssa Dralle earned the pitching win, ending the regular season with a 13-7 overall record, striking out three through her seven-inning victory.

The Big Blue head into the 2026 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Softball Tournament next week as the # 2 seed. Their first game of the tournament will be the last game on Thursday, May 7 in Bloomington, playing the winner of
#3 Augustana and the #6 seed at Inspiration Field on the campus of top-seeded Illinois Wesleyan.
