Big Blue Show Strength in 4-1 Victory Over Webster

Decatur, IL – Millikin University women's soccer faced Webster University at Frank M. Lindsay Field this evening for a very physical and fast paced game, resulting in a 4-1 finish as the Big Blue connected at the net.

From kickoff, the ball moved back and forth quickly as both squads were looking to put the ball in early on. In the 26th minute, the Gorloks were able to up Millikin 1-0 with a tough goal to the top corner of the net.

This led the Big Blue to up their aggression looking to score with three shots taken within four minutes of the Webster goal. Finally, at the 37-minute mark, sophomore Caty Schmidt tucked away an equalizer point for Millikin; bringing the score to 1-1 at the halfway mark.

Entering the second half, the Blue and White defended well by limiting Webster to one shot in the first 10 minutes of continuation to create more chances on their end of the field.

Junior defender Kenzie Long scored her first career goal in minute 57 of the match up (2-1), leaving her teammates ecstatic. Not even 10 minutes later, Corinne Marstall joined the field and made an immediate impact firing another goal into the net for the Big Blue (3-1); her second of the season.

With Millikin up 3-1 in the final minutes, Schmidt challenged the Gorloks' goalkeeper, successfully finding the back of the net to extend the lead to 4-1 off an assist from Hannah Ramsey, marking her second goal of the game and third of the season.

Big Blue goalkeeper Jessica Bearley dominated between the posts with a total of six saves on Webster's seven shots on goal attempts in 90 minutes of action.

Moving up to 2-1 on the season following a great performance, the Big Blue prepare to hit the road for the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse this Saturday, September 12. Kickoff is set for at 5PM at Veterans Memorial Field, also on the WIAC Network.
